If you’ve been circling hyperbaric medicine for a while — reading about it, watching a colleague do it, wondering how you’d even start — the answer is less complicated than it looks.
Nearly every path begins at the same place: a UHMS-designated 40-hour introductory course, completed livestream, or in person.
From there the road forks depending on who you are.
If you’re a physician: The introductory course satisfies CMS requirements for supervising and billing for HBOT, and it’s the prerequisite for enrolling in the UHMS Program for Advanced Training in Hyperbaric Medicine (PATH).
If you’re pursuing added qualification: It’s a precursor to the ABWM certificate of added qualification.
If you’re a nurse or technologist: It’s foundational coursework on the way to CHRN and CHT.
If you’re a respiratory therapist, physical therapist, paramedic or EMT: It’s your entry into a specialty that needs more trained people than it currently has.
There’s no shortcut around step one. So the only real question is where you take it.
