Question: I am interested in the CHT classes. Can you guide me as to what I need? I just finished an EMT course. Do I need to be certified EMT to take the CHT classes?

Answer: If you will be pursuing CHT added qualification, then, yes, EMT is a qualifying pathway.

Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) is an added qualification awarded by an organization called the NBDHMT, National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology.

Please note that the American Board of Wound Healing (ABWH) offers added qualifications similar to the CHT awarded by the NBDHMT. The ABWH offers Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) and Certified Hyperbaric & Wound Specialist (CHWS)

CHT and CHS are equally recognized by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, the preeminent medical society for the subspecialty of hyperbaric medicine - read their position statement here .

Regarding training: our Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine in-person course does apply to those pursuing CHT or CHRN, or CHS, CHWS as it is approved by NBDHMT. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, in-person courses are suspended until further notice (as of March 18, 2020). Instead, the basic training in hyperbaric medicine course is (temporarily) offered via livestream webinar format, which the NBDHMT does not accept; the ABWH does. So if you're pursuing CHT, you'll need to wait until later this year to take an in-person course.

The livestream webinar course format is acceptable for those pursuing CHS or CHWS added qualification through the ABWH.
